Dunkirk is directed and written by Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight) and stars an ensemble cast that includes Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders, Inception), Mark Rylance (The BFG, Bridge of Spies), Tom Hardy (Legend, Mad Max: Fury Road), Kenneth Branagh (Valkyrie, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) and pop sensation Harry Styles. "Allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire and France are surrounded by the German army and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II". Dunkirk is the first guaranteed awards contender of the year. Is it overhyped or is it truly incredible?

An Awkward True Story.
The Big Sick is directed by Michael Showalter (You're Whole, Hello, My Name is Doris) and stars Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley, Adventure Time), Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks, What If), Holly Hunter (The Incredibles, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond, Ice Age). The Big Sick is an early awards frontrunner, can a romantic comedy really compete in the awards race?

 Cars 3 is the directorial debut from Brian Fee who previously worked in the art department for most Pixar releases. The film features the voices of Owen Wilson (Midnight in Paris, Marley & Me), Armie Hammer (The Man from U.N.C.L.E, The Lone Ranger), Larry the Cable Guy (Cars) and introduces Cristela Alonzo to mainstream audiences. "Lightning McQueen sets out to prove to a new generation of racers that he's still the best race car in the world". The Cars series is almost unanimously seen as Pixar's worst, can Cars 3 elevate the franchise?

 War for the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and stars Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games, Zombieland). "After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind". War for The Planet of the Apes is set to conclude the series...will it go out on a high note?

Oh Brother.

 Despicable Me 3 is directed by Kyle Balda (Minions, The Lorax), Pierre Coffin (Despicable Me, Minions) and the directorial debut from Eric Guillon. The film features the voices of Steve Carell (The Office, The 40 Year-Old Virgin), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) and Trey Parker (South Park). "Gru meets his long-lost charming, cheerful, and more successful twin brother Dru who wants to team up with him for one last criminal heist". Quickly becoming one of the most prosperous animated franchises, can Despicable Me 3 continue the hot streak?

All you need is one killer track. 

 Baby Driver is directed and written by Edgar Wright (The World's End, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and stars Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent), Lily James (Cinderella, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained, Law Abiding Citizen) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). "After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail". Baby Driver is the most critically acclaimed film since Get Out - will it live up to sky high expectations or are those expectations a little unrealistic?

 Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car) and stars Tom Holland (The Impossible, Captain America: Civil War), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes), Zendaya (Shake It Up!) and Laura Harrier. "Several months after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark, tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens, New York City while fighting crime as his superhero alter ego Spider-Man as a new threat, the Vulture, emerges". Third time's the charm? With the guidance of Marvel, can Sony finally perfect Spider-Man?

Knowing is good. Knowing everything is better.

 The Circle is directed by James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, Smashed) and stars Emma Watson (Beauty and the Beast, Harry Potter), Tom Hanks (Toy Story, Bridge of Spies), John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Attack the Block) and Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Who). "A woman lands a dream job at a powerful tech company called the Circle, only to uncover an agenda that will affect the lives of all of humanity". After a feeble financial performance in the US, The Circle went straight to Netflix in the UK - is this genuinely a film that is not worth paying for?

Cannes' Treat

 Okja is directed by Joon-ho Bong (Snowpiercer, Mother) and stars Tilda Swinton (Doctor Strange, Narnia), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Southpaw), Paul Dano (Looper, Prisoners), Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror, Love, Rosie) and Seo-Hyun Ahn (The Housemaid, Monster). "Meet Mija, a young girl who risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend - a massive animal named Okja". The headlines read 'Netflix's 'Okja' gets booed at Cannes' after its premiere - however, when actually clicking on the article it was because of technical reasons. Should people overlook that negative headline and give Okja a chance?
