Star Wars: The Force Awakens unsurprisingly took the top spot this weekend with a HUGE debut! The film took in over $50 million at the UK box office! Sisters had a solid start, coming second with $1.8 million. Bollywood also had an impact on the top 5 with Dilwale taking 4th place with just over $1 million.
Also opening within the top 10 was Bajirao Mastani which took 7th with around $445,000. It's A Wonderful Life also re-entered the top 10 with $145,000.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Lost) and introduces Daisy Ridley who stars alongside John Boyega (Attack the Block, Imperial Dreams), Harrison Ford (Star Wars, Indiana Jones), Carrie Fisher (Star Wars, When Harry Met Sally...) and Adam Driver (Inside Llewyn Davis, What If). "30 years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, a new threat rises. The First Order attempts to rule the galaxy and only a ragtag group of Heroes can stop them, along with the help of the Resistance". Possibly the most anticipated film of all time - it is worth the incredible amount of hype or is it also one of the biggest disappointments of all time?
Sisters is directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) and stars Amy Poehler (Inside Out, Parks and Recreation), Tina Fey (Mean Girls, 30 Rock), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, Grown Ups) and John Cena (Trainwreck, The Marine). "Two sisters decide to throw one last house party before their parents sell their family home". Sisters is a non-starter box office wise due to the release of Star Wars. However, will its quality suggest that is deserves to make more? Can a whole movie filled with Poehler and Fey be tolerable or will they get annoying?
Krampus is directed by Michael Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat) and stars Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Miss You Already), David Koechner (Anchorman, Get Smart) and Allison Tolman (The Gift, Fargo). "A boy who has a bad Christmas ends up accidentally summoning a Christmas demon to his family home". So Christmas has finally got its own horror film and the trailer was watched by many around the World - the question is, will Krampus be on the nice or naughty list?
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 continued to reign this weeks box office - the film spent a 4th and final weekend at the box office as the world waits for The Force to Awaken. No films opened within the top 10 - however, all films saw generally light drops.
This one hour long Netflix special is directed by Sofia Coppola and features Bill Murray alongside a bunch of his celebrity friends - Chris Rock, George Clooney, Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler and Miley Cyrus to name a few."Bill Murray worries no one will show up to his T.V. show due to a terrible snow-storm in New York City". Netflix has definitely succeeded in the television market but can it crack the film market too? The jury is still out on Beasts of No Nation and The Ridiculous 6 is getting slammed by pretty much everyone - where does A Very Murray Christmas lie?
Victor Frankenstein is directed by Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Push) and stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, The Woman in Black), James McAvoy (X-Men, Narnia) and Andrew Scott (Sherlock. Spectre). "Told from Igor's perspective, we see the troubled young assistant's dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Viktor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man - and the legend - we know today". Can Warner Bros make monster movies good again? The other monster movie re-tellings haven't faired well with audiences or critics - how will Victor Frankenstein do?

Debuting within the top 10 with the second highest debut was Victor Frankenstein with a mere $645,000 at number 8. Krampus took 9th with just under $620,000 and The Night Before is no where to be seen which is very surprising.
Black Mass is directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace) and has a huge lineup. They include Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean, Alice in Wonderland), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Star Trek Into Darkness), Dakota Johnson (50 Shades of Grey, Need for Speed), Joel Edgerton (The Gift, Warrior), Kevin Bacon (Apollo 13, Footloose)....the list goes on. "The true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf". Will this be the revival of Johnny Depp? or is it just another crowded wannabe awards contender?
