Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Red Riding Hood) and starring Drew Barrymore (Donnie Darko, Scream) and Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Little Miss Sunshine), Miss You Already seems to be one of the top contenders for the biggest tear-jerker. "The friendship between two life-long girlfriends is put to the test when one starts a family and the other falls ill". Can Miss You Already be a smaller film that makes a big impression or will it be a small film that makes no impression?
"In the 1820s, a frontiersman, Hugh Glass, sets out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling". The Revenant has had production problems but is also DiCaprio's big shot for an Oscar - which will be clearer? The Revenant opens on December 25 2015 (limited) in the US and January 15 2016 in the UK.
Bring Him Home
The Martian is directed by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Alien) and stars Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity, Saving Private Ryan), Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, Mama), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Despicable Me 2), Jeff Daniels (Dumb & Dumber, Looper), Kata Mara (Fantastic Four, 127 Hours) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, Z for Zachariah). "During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive". Is The Martian destined to be another huge Ridley Scott property like Alien and Blade Runner or will it be a disappointment like Prometheus?

Staying at number 1 for a second week was Everest. The film managed to stay at the peak by just sliding very slightly. Miss You Already wasn't a huge hit but wasn't a big miss either - the film opened where it needed to - number 4.
Also opening in the top 10 was Solace (6th) and Pixels reentered the chart at number 9.
Man Up is directed by Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners) and stars Lake Bell (What Happens in Vegas, No Strings Attached) and Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). "A single woman who's mistaken for a stranger's blind date, leads to her finding the perfect boyfriend". Man Up is a British comedy which isn't a genre that is known to produce very good films (see Love, Rosie)...can Man Up be an exception?
"Four outsiders in the world of high-finance who predicted the credit and housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000's decide to take on the big banks for their lack of foresight and greed". The Big Short is like Moneyball meets American Hustle - will it meet the quality of those films? The Big Short hits US Cinemas 23rd December 2015 and UK Cinemas 22nd January 2016.

The Jungle Book is directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Chef) and is the next live action Disney fairytale to be released from the house of mouse. The film stars Scarlett Johansson (Avengers, Lucy), Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, Prometheus), Bill Murray (Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters) and Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island, Hugo). "An orphan boy is raised in the jungle with the help of a pack of wolves, a bear, and a black panther". In my opinion, Disney hasn't made a wrong movie with their live action fairytales as of yet...will The Jungle Book be another win? The Jungle Book hits cinemas April 15th 2016.
"The former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa serves as a trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed". So the first trailer for this movie was a roaring success, can trailer 2 match it? Creed hits cinemas in the USA November 25th 2015 and in the UK February 19th 2016.

"A single mother finds that things in her family's life go very wrong after her two young children visit their grandparents". The director of this film hasn't made a good film for years, is the time now or is that just wishful thinking?
"Beatrice Prior and Tobias Eaton venture into the world outside of the fence and are taken into protective custody by a mysterious agency known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare". So, I thought Insurgent was a step back for the franchise, is Allegiant a step back into the right direction? Allegiant hits cinemas March 18th 2016.

The Last Five Years is directed by Richard LaGravenese (P.S I Love You, Beautiful Creatures) and stars Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Into the Woods) and Jeremy Jordan (Smash, Joyful Noise). "A struggling actress and her novelist lover each illustrate the struggle and deconstruction of their love affair". The film never reached the box office heights of Hairspray, Into The Woods, Mamma Mia or Les Miserables - does that mean audiences didn't like it or is it a jem many will find through home media?
"A boy who has a bad Christmas ends up summoning a Christmas demon to his family home". Is there a reason why studios rarely make Christmas themed horror movies? Krampus hits cinemas 4th December.
The Maze Was Just the Beginning
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner) and is based on the book by James Dashner. The film stars Dylan O'Brien (The Maze Runner, Teen Wolf), Kaya Scodelario (Skins, The Maze Runner) and Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, The Dark Knight Rises). "After having escaped the Maze, the Gladers now face a new set of challenges on the open roads of a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles". "High schooler Greg, who spends most of his time making parodies of classic
movies with his co-worker Earl, finds his outlook forever altered after befriending a classmate who has just been diagnosed with cancer". Will Me & Earl & The Dying Girl have the magic of The Fault in Our Stars or will it just be another sugar-coated, sad love story?
Box Office Report 10:22 AM
Also opening within the top 10 was Transporter Refueled which took 7th place, taking in $540,000. Just behind in 8th was American Ultra which performed just as dismally with $530,000. Dope did not crack the top 10 which is probably due to such a limited release.
Be Careful. Children at Play.
Sinister 2 is the sequel of the 2012 film and is directed by Ciaran Foy (Citadel). The film stars James Ransone (Sinister, Inside Man), Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight's Tale, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Robert Daniel Sloan and Dartanian Sloan (Hick). Opening at number 1 this weekend and sending Paper Towns 78% down was Straight Outta Compton. The music bio-pic took in $3.82 million this weekend which fits in very nicely to recent August releases. Hitman: Agent 47 didn't do that great though, taking in $1.47 million which put it in 3rd.
The only other opener within the top 10 was 45 Years which took the number 10 spot and earned $505K. Zac Efron flick We Are Your Friends failed to even make the cut for the top 10 which matches its dismal US release.
