'Welcome to Jurassic Park'

Directed by Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Jaws) and starring Sam Neill (Event Horizon, The Hunt for Red October), Laura Dern (The Fault in Our Stars, Wild), Jeff Goldblum (Independence Day, The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Richard Attenborough (The Great Escape, Elizabeth), Jurassic Park is a classic! 'During a preview tour, a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok.' With Jurassic World fast approaching, does that film have much to live up to?

Yes it does. Now, don't be shocked but this was my first ever viewing of Jurassic Park - even before watching this I was excited for Jurassic World as it looks great but now, if they can pull it off well, it it will be amazing! Jurassic Park is just a great film and I don't know why I didn't see it sooner. The actual plot is very good and is enjoyable throughout - there isn't any dull moments. It also doesn't take too long for the film to kick into gear - the excitement and action basically starts right at the beginning.

One of my biggest worries about watching a film that is over 20 years old is the special effects - I didn't think that they were going to be that great. However, the dinosaurs in this film really do stand the test of time and were very impressive. Even though, they're quite weak compared to present day monsters (Godzilla etc), they are really impressive for the time they were made. The dinosaurs were also truly terrifying and were scary - the whole scene where the T-Rex first discovers the 'tourists' is iconically scary and I can now understand why. I actually wouldn't advise you to watch Jurassic Park alone at home late at night like I did - I was on the edge of my seat!

The acting was also very impressive. Sam Neill and Laura Dern are fantastic and it was really nice to see where great actors, especially the latter, started off. Richard Attenborough was perfectly cast for this film and was fantastic. The child actors in the film were mostly good - there were some scenes where they put on weak performances but they generally stood their ground against the other humans as well as the dinosaurs.

I was aware of the music to the film before watching it but hearing the theme tune with the actual film was so uplifting and iconic. John Williams has created a fantastic soundtrack for the film.

However, I do have one slight issue with the film and that is the 'dumb' actions that some characters make. For example, why would anyone leave their car when a T-Rex is roaming around and furthermore, why would that person leave two vulnerable children in that car with the door wide open? SPOILER: However, that dumb character was definitely punished for being so dumb. The children also made some 'dumb moves' - if a responsible adult tells you to be quiet when you're in a life threatening situation, surely you would? and what kind of a person flashes a light at a T-Rex so they can see?

Jurassic Park is officially one of my favourite movies of all time. Despite some dumb moves by its characters, the film has an excellent  but terrifying story with great action. The acting from all ages is generally good and the visual effects are spectacular for the 1990s. The music is iconic and Jurassic Park is definitely a Spielberg masterpiece.
