Opening at number 1 this weekend with $3.19 million was John Green adaptation Paper Towns. The film followed in the footsteps of other Green adaption The Fault in Our Stars but on a much smaller scale. Sinister 2 opened in 3rd place with $1.65 million which is quite small for a horror film which are usually front loaded - it looks like Sinister 2 won't make much money at all.

Surprisingly opening in first place and taking the UK box office crown was Pixels. The film took in $4.17 million - however, don't be too surprised by this large number as Pixels' weekend figures are made up of Wednesday to Sunday and previous previews - a clever move from Sony. The Man From U.N.C.L.E took 4th with a lacklustre $2.27 million and Trainwreck took 5th with an impressive $1.46 million considering most of the UK don't know who Amy Schumer is.

So I don't usually do these kinds of posts but I'm going to Florida for around 2 weeks on Monday (17th August) which means I won't be as active on here for around that time period. I tried really hard this past week to review a few of the major UK releases - Pixels, The Gift and Trainwreck. I will be catching a film when I'm in America as its kind of a tradition and I'll probably watch a film on the plane - so these next two weeks may not be that quiet. I will also continue with the box office reports. I thought, to make my readers aware and get me even more excited, I would do the 'Disney World Tag' AND the 'Disney Tag' as I am a HUGE Disney fan! So here goes...

Matching its terrible US debut, Fantastic Four also did not-so-fantastic business in the UK. The film took in a lacklustre $4.18 million which is extremely low for a Marvel film. This is also only marginally above the famous DC bomb 'The Green Lantern' - I guess Marvel have their own version now. However, the low debut didn't stop the film from taking the top spot. Also opening in the top five was The Gift which took in a slightly disappointing $910,000 - it should have at least cracked the $1 million mark.

About Ray is an upcoming 2015 release and is likely to be an awards contender. The film is directed by Gaby Dellal (On a Clear Day) and stars Elle Fanning (Maleficent, Super 8), Naomi Watts (21 Grams, The Impossible) and Susan Sarandon (Thelma and Louis, Dead Man Walking). Here is the films synopsis: "A teenager transitions from female to male, and his family must come to terms with that fact". Could this be Elle Fanning's chance to prove she is just as talented as her older sister?

Matching its mammoth US debut, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation also did solid business in the UK - the film made 2X the amount that Ghost Protocol made on its opening weekend in the UK - the Mission Impossible franchise has definitely increased in quality and box office performance as it goes on. No other new films cracked the top 5.
