Jurassic World (2015)

The Park is Open
Jurassic World is the 4th instalment in the franchise and is directed by Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed). The film stars Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help), Ty Simpkins (Insidious) and Nick Robinson (The Kings of Summer). 'Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor's interest, which backfires horribly'. Will this be the first sequel to the outstanding Jurassic Park to actually be good?

Yes. It. Is. Jurassic World is by far my favourite film of the year so far. The film was just fantastic! It was great to look at but also had a good plot and character development - I have seen some critics complain about all characters having their own B-stories but I think this is a good thing as it develops the characters. The film is exciting, thrilling and spectacular!

The plot for the film is really interesting and exciting. I really like how it takes place in a theme park as that is where the Jurassic Park movies clearly work best - number 2 & 3 drifted off from this setting and hurt the quality of the film. The new dino is definitely not a disappointing - it may not look too scary in comparison to a T-rex but all the skills it has, top the T-rex by a mile - this new dino means business! My favourite scene was probably when the characters were watching the water show - not only was it truly breath-taking but it was also really cool how the seats moved down to show what the dino was doing underwater - I wish our theme parks were like this! I also really liked the opening sequence - I thought it was cute to see younger kids riding baby triceratops as if they were miniature horses. The film also had its jumpy moments - this is the type of popcorn flick that the world has been needing and we finally got it! I also liked how much this film resembled the original - the classic theme tune was used but some classic lines were also said - for example, 'Run' was said again and it was just as effective!

I'm going to briefly mention the soundtrack - it was beautiful to listen to. The main theme tune was used a couple of times - once in its true form but another slower version SPOILER when the characters discover the relics of the original park - amazing! All of the songs were perfectly parallel to what was occurring on-screen - Jurassic World has an excellent soundtrack like the original! (I'm actually listening to the soundtrack whilst writing this review)

The visual effects were amazing and deserve an Oscar nomination - the dinosaurs looked like they belonged in the film and didn't just seem inserted - faultless! Obviously, since the original movie, technology has improved a lot so it was nice to see an imagining of what the dinosaurs would have looked like if the original had been made today. The good thing about this movie is when the actors were interacting with the dinos, it looked realistic whereas in Age of Ultron when Black Widow interacted with the Hulk - it was clear that it was fake and CGI'd.

Jurassic World had an end battle where I actually applauded with the outcome - you don't see it coming but you realise you wanted it to happen and it is just the perfect outcome! I also really like how connected with the dinosaurs that the characters are - they really care about them and it is nice to see some of the dinos on 'team human' for once! The deaths are very gruesome and cruel like usual - one in particular (that you briefly see in the trailer) is very dark and cruel but it is very effective and one of the stand out moments.

The acting in the film is absolutely brilliant. Chris Pratt is definitely a movie star and I think he hasn't made any bad choices with his blockbuster movies so far! Pratt is definitely going to have a long career. However, one of the biggest surprises for me was Bryce Dallas Howard - she actually had a slightly bigger role than Pratt (in my opinion) and did really well - I thought she was going to be incredibly annoying but I was wrong - she is a fantastic actress! The child actors are also not annoying which is a first for a Jurassic Park movie - Simpkins and Robinson are fantastic and should get a lot of opportunities from this. If only this had been released a little earlier, Marvel would have probably knocked on Robinson's door for their Spider-Man movie!

Jurassic World is a truly satisfying entry into the franchise - it is the first sequel to the original to actually be good. But the thing is, this isn't just good, it is AMAZING! The dinosaurs are terrifying but visually stunning and the actors are excellent. Jurassic World's story is really well done and the end battle is one I am going to remember for a long time. Forget being the best film of 2015 (which is currently is), Jurassic World may just be one of my favourite movies of all time! Entertainment at its best.
